The Harp Away! program was designed not only to entertain, but to educate as well. Harp Away! meets the following educational standards collected from the Alabama State Department of Education ranging from Kindergarten to fifth grade.

 
     
Music
  • Distinguish between high and low sounds

  • Recognize instruments by sight and sound

  • Recognize and practice accepted performance behavior

  • Correlate music in relation to history and culture

  • Sing with proper vocal technique

  • Sing expressively

  • Perform independently while others sing and play

  •  Contrasting parts

  • Create variations and accompaniments

 

Theatre
  • Engage in dramatic activities that depict characters from diverse historical periods and cultures

  • Recognize that drama is a major form of literature

  • Describe characters, their relationships, and their environments.

  • Articulate the different goals and feelings of characters.

  • Suggest alternative settings, characters, and endings.

  • Create tension and suspense in or through characters, environments, and actions

 

Dance
  • Interpret melody through movement and discussion of those movements

  • Express musical ideas using creative movement

  • Recognize a variety of dance forms.

  • Perform dances from different time periods and discuss the way in which the mood of the time period affects the dance.

  • Demonstrate the difference between pantomime and dance

Science

  • Identify vibration as the source of sound

  • Identifying pitch and volume as properties of sound

  • Distinguishing between pitch and volume of sound

  • Relate physical properties of sound and light to wave characteristics

Reading
  • Understand the concept of story

  • Demonstrate appropriate listening and communicating behaviors

  • Exhibit an increased facility in self-expression in a variety of forms

Art
  • Recognize different periods of art

  • Compare differences between artistic styles.

  • View how art reflects and records history in various cultures
